August Newsletter 2024
Summer is here!
If we have seemed a little quiet lately, it's because we've been recovering from our 9th Birthday Party - on the 12th June we squeezed a lovely group of friends and gin fanatics into the shop for an evening full of tasting and toasting!
We made our way through seven (nearly one for each year!) of our current favourite gins and ended the evening with a rousing rendition of happy birthday, which may or may not have brought a tear to David's eye.
The entire range of tasting gins are still available in store for a sneaky sip as you shop - including a bright and fresh Sheringham Seaside Gin from Vancouver, a surprisingly savoury Peddler's Shanghai Craft Gin, and a delightfully delicate Lemon Balm infusion from the local Ramsbury distillery in Marlborough.
A huge thank you to all those who came along and got involved, and to everyone who has supported us over the last near-decade!

Continuing the theme of drinking on the job . . we were also thrilled to have Mark Darley from All Angels join us in store in July to taste the newest local vintage from his Enbourne vinyard. Corks popped, bubbles flowed, and Newbury highstreet was filled with some very happy (if slightly wobbly) customers!
We also celebrated the 31 Days of German Riesling with free tastings across the last weekend in July - so it's always worth popping in and seeing what's 'on tap'.
As we start planning our Autumn and Winter calendar, expect to see some warming whiskey and rum tasting evenings popping up as well.

Bank Holiday Sundae?
Innkeeper David and gin-connoisseur Debbie trekked it up to Birmingham last month to compete in the final of 'Boutique-y vs The World' - a cocktail competition based around That Boutique-y Whisky Company's own selection of spirits. All other competitors came from professional bartending backgrounds, so we were incredibly proud to see our entry make it all the way to the final round!
The Lost Moose is a sweet, creamy, indulgent collaboration between two of our favourite in-store tipples, and comes highly recommended by all of us here.

Cambridge Distillery
This month we're also highlighting the excellent selection of botanical gins available from Cambridge Distillery. Cambridge pride themselves on crafting gins which have never been seen before, and their unique philosophy has led to them being awarded three consecutive times as the most innovative distillery in the world!
Botanicals are selected and distilled individually to infuse each gin with a distinct and rich flavour - try their classic Dry Gin, aromatic Japanese Gin, or bespoke Curator's Gin inspired by Cambridge Botatincal Gardens. These gins were a particular highlight of our Birthday tasting evening and are available in store now for sampling, and online.
