Sips Ahoy!

Setting sail with a Siren Pachanga and a slice of lime, last month we teamed up with Kennet & Avon Canals Trust to take twenty-odd tasters on an evening Beer Cruise between Newbury and Speen.  We were treated to gorgeous sunshine and scenery as we worked our way through six different beers, all chosen specially by our Innkeepers.

Capturing the spirit of the summer, we featured a zesty sherberty Attic Co NEIPA, a too-easily-sessionable pale ale from Verdant, and the Wild Summer rustic Beer by Burning Sky - a beautifully zingy gooseberry and elderflower rustic beer which was approved by even sours-skeptical Innkeeper Ellie!  We have since run out of this one, but we have Burning Sky's latest Petite Framboise available online.

This light and breezy vibe was more than balanced out by the inclusion of Hercule Stout, which we discovered pairs perfectly with a bar of Bounty.  Hercule has swiftly become a solid favourite in the shop, and also featured heavily in our Belgian Tasting the week after!

We have high hopes of bringing the cruise back next summer, so keep an eye out for future news and ticket availability.
The last week of August was then dedicated to a celebration of Belgian Beer!  Belgium Beer Week runs every year to highlight the incredible range of blonds, bruins, strong and fruit bier coming out of Belgium - and we celebrated in store with a free beer tasting on offer every single day.

Top marks went to Brugse Zot Bruin and Tripel Karmelier, with an honourable mention to Delirium Red for being the marmite beer of the week (absolutely adored by some, '. . . interesting' to others).

Upcoming Events

We will be welcoming the team from Zimasa Vodka to the store on Saturday 7 September to host a vodka tasting session - free for all curious customers!  Zimasa is distilled six times for exceptional clarity and infused with the traditional Zimbabwean Masau fruit, giving it a distinctive fruity bite.

Later in the month, Friday 27th, we are also treated to an evening of craft beer tasting courtesy of Azvex Brewing.  Azvex are a phenominal favourite here with a loyal following of fans, so these tickets are already seeling fast!  Consider this our version of a lock-in - we'll shut the shop up and spend a couple of hours sharing the best and most exciting beers we have.

More information on both events can be found on our website.

And, obviously, after September . . comes OKTOBER

We will be running special offers and events throughout the two weeks of Oktoberfest - look out for more details to come on our social media!
